Two New Stakes-Winners for Tale of the Cat

16th September 2007

Tale of the Cat featured in North America on Saturday producing two new stakes-winners including the highly impressive juvenile colt Tale of Ekati (2c Tale of the Cat - Silent Beauty, by Sunday Silence), winner of the Group Two Futurity Stakes over seven furlongs at Belmont.

A touch slow to break, Tale of Ekati raced buried in the pack for much of the journey before angling into the clear on straightening. He accelerated quickly near the fence to defeat the favourite Kodiak Kowboy by a length, with the Fusaichi Pegasus colt Mythical Pegasus holding third place.

A homebred colt for Charles Fipke, Tale of Ekati is prepared by Barclay Tagg and has now won two of three starts, his lone defeat when second to Ready’s Image in the Group Two Sandford Stakes at Saratoga.

Reportedly shin-sore on that occasion, he was subsequently blistered and was obviously feeling no pain in this assignment after a couple of weeks off to freshen right up.

“He’s a very nice colt,” said Tagg,

“We’ve been very high on him since we’ve gotten him to the track. I’m with him all day, every day, and you can really tell when a horse is coming to himself.

We are very excited about him. We’ll probably train him straight up to the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile.”

Tale of Ekati is a regally bred colt being the first foal of the Sunday Silence mare Silent Beauty, a half-sister to champion mare Sky Beauty from Group One winner Maplejinsky.

Tale of the Cat added another new stakes-winner to his resume when three year-old filly Adorable Jane (3f Tale of the Cat - Copeaway, by Copelan) won the Delaware Certified Distaff Stakes over six furlongs.

She strolled home by seven and a quarter lengths and has put together a tidy record for her trainer Richard E Dutrow Jr, winning three races and running four seconds from just nine starts.

Tale of Ekati and Adorable Jane become stakes-winners 39 and 40 for Tale of the Cat, who is currently serving at Coolmore Australia having exited the Eastern Creek quarantine facility along with the other American shuttle sires prior to the outbreak of EI.

Also in action at Coolmore Australia is his high class son Group One winning son Lion Heart, whose oldest Australian progeny are yearlings.
