Pillar of Hercules Impresses at Moonee Valley

15th September 2007

Exciting Rock of Gibraltar colt Pillar of Hercules (3c Rock of Gibraltar - Coat, by Brocco) put it altogether at his third race start to score a commanding win in the open three year-old event at Moonee Valley on Saturday.

The dashing chestnut cruised to the front on turning for home and coasted home an easy winner, saluting by more than a length over another progressive type in Gran Sasso (3c Dehere - Lady Soffel, by Rubiton).

“We'll come back for the Bill Stutt (Stakes) now and he's also still in the (Caulfield) Guineas," said winning trainer Peter Moody.

"He's always shown good ability. He's an improving colt. Hopefully this is the start of things to come. I think there's better races there."

Pillar of Hercules (pictured as a yearling) was purchased by Peter Moody for $475,000 at the 2006 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale and was bred and offered for sale by Reavill Farm.

He is a three-quarter brother to stake-placed Coat’s Choice being the fourth foal of the Brocco (USA), mare Coat, a half-sister to Golden Slipper winner Catbird and Group Two winner Danbird.

Pillar of Hercules continues the exceptional winning run being enjoyed by Rock of Gibraltar since the start of the Australian racing season, the former champion racehorse siring nine individual winners since August 1.
