Rocks in fashion
7th September 2007
Speaking of Danehill's sons, the Rock continues to make a big splash with more black-type success in recent days Two-year-old Fashion Rocks (2f Rock Of Gibraltar-La Gandilie, by Highest Honor) looks a juvenile to follow after landing the Listed EBF Dick Poole Stakes at Salisbury on Thursday for trainer Brian Meehan. The Swordlestown Stud-bred filly, a 200,000 euros yearling bought by Hugo Merry, held on gamely to take the six-furlong event. "She's a tough little filly and did it well. No doubt she'd appreciate a step up in trip," said winning rider Jimmy Fortune.
That victory came hot on the heels of a win for Anna's Rock (3f Rock of Gibraltar - Anna Karenina, by Atticus) in the Listed Fairy Bridge Stakes at Tipperary. The Jim Bolger-trained filly, a 125,000 euros yearling bred by Rick Barnes of Grangecon Stud, led throughout and dictated terms to her older rivals before skipping clear to win by a length and a quarter. Rock Of Gibraltar, the leading second season sire for Great Britain and Ireland by quite a margin, also had a stakes winner in the US when English Colony (3c Rock Of Gibraltar-Jemima, by Owington) was an easy winner of the Lights And Music Stakes at Belmont on Sunday for breeder Will Farish.
