Unbeaten four year-old Here De Angels (4g Dehere - Angelic Belle, by Kenmare) took on champion mare Gold Edition at Caulfield on Saturday in a vintage renewal of the Group Three MVRC Ian McKewen Stakes and emerged with his record intact.Under the weight-for-age scale Here De Angels had to give the glamour mare 2.5 kg and from barrier 10 was forced to cover ground throughout the 1000 metre event, but in the end he prevailed to win by the best part of a length in 57.41 seconds.
“He’s an awesome sprinter,” said winning trainer Lee Freedman.
“We keep putting the bar up and he keeps answering the call.”
Here De Angels (pictured as a yearling) has won six from six earning $223,000 for his large syndicate of owners put together by leading Victorian syndicators Slade Bloodstock and is now likely to step up to Group One company for his next assignment in the MVRC Manikato Stakes at Moonee Valley on September 15.
Rob Slade secured the son of Dehere for $90,000 from the draft of Yarraman Park Stud at the 2005 Magic Millions Yearling Sale.
The fourth foal and first stakes-winner for the Kenmare mare Angelic Belle, Here De Angels was bred by Lisa Randle and sold privately to Yarraman as a foal.
His dam was only a minor winner at 1400 metres, but does come from the family of Group One winner Dashing Eagle and quality performers La Caissiere, Brief Embrace and Ken’s Joy.
Angelic Belle was covered last season by Dehere so is expecting a full sibling to Here De Angels this spring.
A regular shuttle visitor to Australia since 1995, Dehere is safely in residence at Coolmore Australia and already covering mares at a fee of $55,000.
