15th Stakes-Winner for Rock

31st August 2007

Outstanding young sire Rock of Gibraltar posted his 15th stakes-winner worldwide in Ireland on Thursday when Anna’s Rock (3f Rock of Gibraltar - Anna Karenina, by Atticus) won the Listed Fairy Bridge Stakes at Tipperary over seven furlongs.

The Jim Bolger trained filly led throughout and dictated terms to her older rivals before skipping clear to win her first Black Type assignment by a length.

Anna’s Rock (pictured as a yearling) was purchased by Bolger for 125,000 euros from the draft of Grangecon Stud at the 2005 Goffs Million Yearling Sale and is the first foal of the unraced Atticus mare Anna Karenina.

Anna Karenina comes with a superb pedigree being a half-sister to champion miler Arcangues and Group Three winner Agathe, the dam of former glamour Danehill mare Aquarelliste, a triple Group One winner of the French Oaks and runner-up in the Arc de Triomphe.

Anna’s Rock continues the great run being enjoyed by Rock of Gibraltar in the Northern Hemisphere this year where he is the leading second season sire for Great Britain and Ireland by quite a margin.

Rock of Gibraltar spent the Northern Hemisphere breeding season in Japan and is currently among the stallions quarantined for an extended period at Eastern Creek due to the outbreak of EI in Australia.
