More black-type success for Choisir
27th August 2007
Choisir enjoyed another first-crop stakes winner at Ripon on Monday when the Richard Hannon-trained Fat Boy (2c Choisir-Gold Shift, by Night Shift) ran away with the Listed Champion Two-Year-Old Trophy by three lengths.
Jockey Richard Hughes never needed to push his mount to land the cosy success in the six–furlong contest.
Fat Boy, who was bred by Peter Mooney, made €46,000 at Goffs Sportsman Sale before changing hands for £70,000 at the Goffs Breeze-Up Sale at Kempton Park in March, when purchased by Peter Doyle from Mocklershill Stables.
"He covers a lot of ground and gallops horses into the ground, he is getting better and he is in the G2 Mill Reef Stakes and the G1 Middle Park Stakes. I should think he would go for one or the other," said Hughes.
Choisir has already got another black-type winner to his name in Porto Marmay (2f Choisir - Nordicolini, by Nordico), winner of the Listed Danehill Dancer Tipperary Stakes at Tipperary.
Choisir continues to enjoy a sensational first-season and he enjoyed a valuable success when Edge Of Gold (2f Choisir-Beveled Edge, by Beveled) won the prestigious DBS St Leger Yearling Stakes at Newmarket on Friday for trainer Bryn Palling.
"She's a half-sister to Indian Edge and all the family love to get their toe in. We feel she can do well given similar conditions through the autumn," said the filly’s owner-breeder Christopher Mason.
