Sadler's Wells colt is Melbourne possible
22nd August 2007
A trip to the Melbourne Cup is being considered by connections of Septimus (4c Sadler’s Wells-Caladira, by Darshaan) after the Sadler’s Wells colt captured the G2 Weatherbys Insurance Lonsdale Cup over an extended two miles at York on Tuesday.
Jockey Johnny Murtagh always looked to be in pole position as he tracked the leaders before he hit the front over a furlong out and went on to a length victory.
"Yeats and he are both possible for Melbourne," said trainer Aidan O’Brien, who is also considering more immediate targets such as the G1 Irish St Leger for Septimus.
"We had to see what happened here first, but Septimus loved the trip. He had never run this far before, but he always looked like he was going to get further. He travelled sweetly all the way and it was his first run back after a break."
