Too Fast for Company

22nd August 2007

Currently the leading sire of two year-olds in Britain and Ireland this year, Danehill Dancer added another juvenile stakes-winner to his record at York on Tuesday when Fast Company (2c Danehill Dancer - Sheezalady, by Zafonic) won the Group Three Acomb Stakes over seven furlongs.

Having just his second race start after winning easily on debut at Salisbury in a maiden on July 14, the Brian Meehan trained colt settled off the pace before taking over with more than a furlong to run.

He shot well clear of the Storm Cat colt Lucifer Sam in the run to the line, winning the Group Three event by three and a half lengths in a highly impressive display.

“I’m delighted with him and it just confirms what we've thought since January. He is a very smart individual and looks a Dewhurst horse but we will go back and discuss it with the team before we make any moves,” said Brian Meehan.

Raced by American owner Earle Mack, Fast Company was secured at the 2006 Tattersalls October Yearling Sale for 140,000 guineas from the draft of Glenvale Stud in Ireland.

He is the first stakes-winner for the Zafonic mare Sheezalady, a half-sister to Group Two winner Hawajiss, whose extended family features a host of Australian Black Type performers including Torumba and Faiza.

Danehill Dancer has been flying with his European juveniles in 2007, Fast Company now one of four individual stakes-winners joining Lizard Island, Lisvale and Warsaw.

Fast Company becomes the 53rd stakes-winner worldwide for Danehill Dancer who has also been in the news in Australia with his three year-old son Shrewd Rhythm winning the Listed MRC Vain Stakes last Saturday and being sold as a stallion prospect to Lindsay Park Stud.
