Closet Rocker Makes Six for Rock

21st August 2007

Winners have been jumping out of the ground for Rock of Gibraltar since the start of the new Australian racing season and he posted his sixth at Canterbury on Wednesday when Closet Rocker (3f Rock of Gibraltar - Incommincado, by Sadler's Wells) took the fillies maiden event over 1200 metres.

The Graeme Rogerson trained filly had been placed four times previously, so was well overdue for a win and did the job in style racing away in the heavy ground to win by more than two lengths after missing the kick.

“She went super at her last start so I came into today pretty confident,” said Rogerson.

“I wasn’t feeling real good when they jumped but at the 600 metres I thought she had a hope again. She has always shown me plenty of ability and I might look to run her in the Furious Stakes [Randwick, September 8] now.”

A $230,000 purchase for Rogerson Bloodstock from the draft of Curraghmore Stud at the 2006 NZB Premier Yearling Sale, Closet Rocker is the fifth foal of the Sadler’s Wells mare Incommunicado, an unraced daughter of US Group One winner Aptostar.

Rock of Gibraltar is back in Australia for his fifth successive season at Coolmore and will serve a full book at $82,500.
