More Star Foals Arrive at Coolmore

20th August 2007

While the Galileo colt from Makybe Diva has been capturing all the media attention there have been several other notable foalings at Coolmore including the first foal for former top racemare Shania Dane.

A Group Two winner of five races and $849,875 in prizemoney, Shania Dane (pictured) also ran five frustrating Group One placings before she was retired to stud in 2006 by her owners the Crismale family and Coolmore bloodstock advisor Colm Santry.

Sent to Encosta de Lago in her first year at stud, Shania Dane produced a strapping bay colt on August 17 and is due to return to Encosta again this spring.

A $470,000 purchase for Colm Santry Bloodstock from the Coolmore draft at the 2003 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale, Shania Dane is by Danehill from outstanding broodmare Subterfuge, who also produced a foal last week.

Subterfuge gave birth to a bay filly on August 16 by Encosta de Lago, a full sister to this season’s two year-old Mothwing, who was secured by Clarry Conners on behalf of Dr Edmund Bateman for $1,250,000 from the Coolmore draft at Easter this year.

Subterfuge has proven an exceptional broodmare, her produce record featuring Shania Dane as well as Hong Kong Group One winner Scintillation, Group place-getters Liatris and Danevade, stakes-placed Puzzle Book and Sequin, the dam of stakes-winner Get to Work.

Subterfuge will also return to Encosta de Lago this spring.
