Hawk Wings flying on track and at sales

19th August 2007

First-crop winners continue to come thick and fast for Hawk Wing with an impressive victory for the James Fanshawe-trained Falcolnry (2f Hawk Wing-Fear And Greed, by Brief Truce) in a hot Doncaster maiden on Friday.

The Michael Begley-bred filly, a 75,000 euros yearling, made steady progress to take the lead in the final furlong and score by a length from the High Chaparral debutant Sugar Mint (2f High Chaparral-Anna Karenina, by Atticus), trained by Barry Hills for her breeder Rick Barnes.

Falcolnry’s win came less than 24 hours after the Ann Duffield-trained Bonjour Allure (2f Hawk Wing-Exact Replica, by Darshaan), bred by the Mounte Coote Partnership, broke her duck in maiden over seven and a half furlongs at Beverley.

Hawk Wing’s second crop have been all the rage at Arqana’s August Yearling Sale in Deauville with prices of 440,000 euros, 230,000 euros, 220,000 euros and 100,000 euros (twice) etc.

Agent Peter Doyle paid 440,000 euros for a Hawk Wing colt out of She Is Zen, by Zieten, offered from Haras des Capucines.

"This is a lovely horse, one of the nicest in the sale, although I didn’t expect to pay so much for him. He will go to Wido Neuroth, who has been the leading trainer in Norway for many years," said Doyle.

Meanwhile Sunday night’s session was topped by a 230,000 euros Hawk Wing filly out of G2 King’s Stand Stakes winner Don’t Worry Me, by Dancing Dissident.

The filly was bought by Lauren Benoit of the Broadhurst Agency on behalf of an Australian client who has horses with Andre Fabre.
