Winning Comeback for Kiloton
15th August 2007
Lightly raced entire Kiloton (4h Spinning World - Mystifying, by Last Tycoon) made a winning return after a spell of 44 weeks when he got home in the Class Three event over 1100 metres at Canterbury on Wednesday. Not seen since defeating smart mare Rose of Sharon when winning on debut at Canterbury on October 6, Kiloton was having his first start for Bart Cummings having previously been in the Gai Waterhouse stable.
Sent out a heavily backed favourite, Kiloton sat just off the pace throughout before moving up to win, although lack of race condition nearly caught him out as he scrambled home at the post by a long head.
“He’ got plenty of ability but his run ended about 100 metres out, so it was a very good effort to win,” said winning rider, Blake Shinn.
A $200,000 purchase from the Coolmore draft at the 2005 Magic Millions Yearling Sale, Kiloton (pictured as a yearling) has two wins at his only starts and looks a horse with a bright future.
Bred by Mrs Deb Camilleri, Kiloton is the second foal of the metropolitan winning Last Tycoon mare Mystifying, a daughter of stakes-winning mare Jewel in the Crown, whose grand-dam is celebrated producer Denise’s Joy.
Mystifying has an outstanding yearling colt by Encosta de Lago and is due to foal to Danehill Dancer, with a return booking to that sire this spring.
