Saddex is latest G1 winner for mighty Sadler’s Wells
13th August 2007
The incredible Sadler’s Wells enjoyed yet another G1 winner in Cologne on Sunday when the progressive Saddex (4c Sadler’s Wells-Remote Romance, by Irish River) won the G1 Rheinland-Pokal der Sparkasse KolnBonn.
The colt was always racing prominently before taking the lead before the final furlong to come home three lengths clear of the field.
"I was confident. He is much better than he was at three and I think he will be even better next year," said winning trainer Peter Rau. "We have not been overracing him this season because we think he has plenty of improvement in him.
"He will be my first runner in the G1 Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe. If he has a race before then, it would be in the G1 Grosser Preis von Baden."
Saddex was bred by the Niarchos family and was sold for 115,000 euros at the 2004 Deauville October Yearling Sale.
