Eagle Mountain leads home G2 1-2-3 for Coolmore sires

13th August 2007

Rock Of Gibraltar’s purple patch continued at the Curragh on Sunday when G1 Derby runner-up Eagle Mountain (3c Rock Of Gibraltar-Masskana, by Darshaan) was an impressive two and a half length winner of the G2 Royal Whip Stakes.

Eagle Mountain led home a 1-2-3 for Coolmore sires - and sons of Danehill - in the mile and a quarter event with Alexander Tango (3f Danehill Dancer-House In Wood, by Woodman) coming second and Decado (4c Danehill Dancer-Pirie, by Green Dancer) finishing third.

The winner, who was bred by London Thoroughbred Services, could head to the G1 Irish Champion Stakes after his gutsy victory.

"He’s very like his father in that he comes out of his races very well, whereas other horses might fall away," said trainer Aidan O’Brien.

This latest victory follows recent wins for Rock Of Gibraltar’s son Yellowstone (3c Rock Of Gibraltar-Love And Affection, by Exclusive Fan) in the G3 Gordon Stakes at Glorious Goodwood and for Theann (3f Rock of Gibraltar - Cassandra Go, by Indian Ridge) in the G3 Summer Stakes at York.

Meanwhile in Australia the Gai Waterhouse-trained Sliding Cube (3f Rock of Gibraltar-Shantha’s Choice, by Canny Lad) made it three wins from three starts when landing the G3 AJC San Domenico Stakes at Randwick on Saturday.
