Smart Randwick Win for Occurrence

11th August 2007

The Class Three event for fillies at Randwick on Saturday over 1200 metres was taken out in devastating fashion by the Choisir filly Occurrence (3f Choisir - Happens, by Barathea), a $75,000 purchase from the draft of Southern Cross Breeders at the 2006 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale.

The Bart Cummings trained filly looked good when scoring at her first run back from a break at Canterbury on August 1 and went right on with the job here in clearing out to win by three lengths.

“She found the line well at the finish and is improving all the time,” said Cummings, who has the filly entered for races such as the Thousand Guineas and VRC Oaks.

With two wins from three starts and $69,400 in prizemoney, Occurrence is already on the way to recouping her modest purchase price.

Bred and offered for sale by Martin Hawcroft’s Byerley Stud under the banner of Southern Cross Breeders, Occurrence is the second foal of the stakes-placed Barathea (IRE) mare Happens, a daughter of Irish Group Three winner Eichtercua (IRE).

Another Choisir filly to impress at Randwick on Saturday was the David Payne trained Hurried Choice (3f Choisir - Hustle Bustle, by Catrail) who finished a close uo fourth in the Group Three AJC San Domenico Stakes behind Sliding Cube in her first run back from a spell.

A stakes-winner last season at two, Hurried Choice looks set for another good campaign and will be worth following during the spring.
