Spinning World Filly Scores Smart Win

8th August 2007

Leading trainer Gai Waterhouse produced a stylish winner at Warwick Farm on Wednesday when three year-old filly Kishkat (3f Spinning World - Wichita, by Umatilla)  strolled home by three and a half lengths.

Improving markedly on her unplaced debut run at Canterbury on July 27 when slowly away, Kishkat was a different filly with the addition of blinkers, settling just off the pace and powering clear in the straight to claim the 1400 metre maiden at her second race start.

“The blinkers have obviously had a positive affect on her but I don’t think the wet ground at Canterbury suited her,” said winning jockey Nash Rawiller.

“She will keep improving and I think she will only get better as the distances get longer.”

Kishkat (pictured as a yearling) is raced by Tom Pongrass and Andrew Reichard, the Spinning World filly having been secured for them by Waterhouse for $250,000 at the 2006 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale, where she was the lone entry by her sire.

Bred and offered for sale by Stuart Ramsay’s Turangga Farm, Kishkat is a full sister to former brilliant sprinter Our Quivira, a Group Three winner of six races up to 1200 metres and over $250,000 in prizemoney.

Kishkat is the fourth foal of Group Three placed Umatilla mare Wichita, whose third dam is former top racemare Deck the Halls winner of the 1981 Group One STC Rosehill Guineas.

After producing Kishkat, Wichita left an Encosta de Lago colt that made $300,000 at the Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale this year and after missing in 2005 is now due to foal to Encosta de Lago again this spring.

Troubled by poor fertility, Kishkat’s Coolmore based sire Spinning World is a consistent source of top class gallopers from limited numbers and at a fee of $8,800 is unbeatable value.
