Yellowstone impressive in Gordon Stakes
7th August 2007
Few will forget Rock Of Gibraltar's gutsy win in the G1 Sussex Stakes at Goodwood and his presence was felt at the course last week when his ultra-consistent son Yellowstone (3c Rock Of Gibraltar-Love And Affection, by Exclusive Fan) ran out an impressive winner of the G3 Gordon Stakes.Aidan O'Brien's charge, bred by Tullamaine Castle Stud and partners, battled well under Johnny Murtagh to hold off G1 Derby third Aqaleem.
"I thought he had a very good chance and his form was there for all to see," said joint-owner Michael Tabor. "I'm very pleased because he's a very decent horse who has been racing against the best and kept his form all year."
Murtagh added: "I knew they'd quicken three down so I wanted to get him ready for his effort and I was always going to win. He idled a bit but I felt he was holding Richard (Hills on Aqaleem) when he came to him.
"My lad's gone and got his head down right to the line and I'd say he's a mile and a quarter or mile and a half horse. He's a lovely good mover who will appreciate better ground."
