11th Australian Winner for Rock
25th July 2007
Champion racehorse and exciting young sire Rock of Gibraltar produced his eleventh individual Australian juvenile winner this season in Perth on Wednesday when Proart (2c Rock of Gibraltar - Beaux Art, by Nomrood) scored on debut at Belmont over 1200 metres.Starting a short-priced favourite after two impressive barrier trial wins, the Shane Edwards trained Proart took control of the race upon entering the straight and fought strongly when challenged over the final 200 metres.
Proart is the sixth foal of six time stakes-winning mare Beaux Art whose biggest win came in the Group One WATC Western Australian Derby along with Group One placings in the 1995 VATC Caulfield Cup and 1996 AJC Sydney Cup.
A proven producer, Beaux Art is also the dam of stakes-winner Imaginaire, winner of the Listed WATC St Leger and is back in foal to Imaginaire’s sire Fusaichi Pegasus.
With less than a week to go until the end of the Australlian racing season, Rock of Gibraltar now shares the lead by individual winners with Johannesburg and Falvelon who are also on 11 winners.
