Eighth Aussie Winner for Choisir

17th July 2007

Former champion sprinter Choisir notched his eighth individual Australian winner at Kilmore on Tuesday when two year-old colt Tribal Choice (2c Choisir - Hayden Clan, by Marscay) rallied strongly to win the juvenile maiden over 1200 metres.

The Bevan Laming trained youngster improved off a last start third to grab a narrow victory over Kintyre with six lengths back to the third place-getter.

A $135,000 purchase from the draft of Trevannah at the 2005 Magic Millions National Weanling Sale, Tribal Choice is the ninth foal of the Marscay mare Hayden Clan, a daughter of stakes-winner Interiors.

Tribal Choice is a half-brother to four winners including the West Australian based Group Two winner Never Blue and comes from the family of Group One winners Magari and Centaurea.

With eight individual Australian winners Choisir is now equal with Hussonet on eight winners, only a couple off the pace set by Falvelon and Johannesburg (with 11 and Rock of Gibraltar on 10.

Choisir will stand the coming season at Coolmore Australia at a fee of $33,000, his yearlings at ‘the Majors’ this year selling for up to $400,000.
