13th Stakes winner for Rock of Gibraltar
14th July 2007
Champion racehorse Rock of Gibraltar continues to forge ahead in his new career as a sire adding a new stakes-winner to his résumé at York on Friday when three year-old filly Theann (3f Rock of Gibraltar - Cassandra Go, by Indian Ridge) captured the Group Three Summer Stakes over six furlongs.A tough and consistent type with two wins and five placings from 12 starts, Theann has thrived on recent hard racing and excelled over the sprinting trip. She settled off the pace before dashing to the lead with a furlong to run, then kicked clear to win by two and a half lengths.
Trained by Aidan O’Brien for Mrs E M Stockwell, Theann (pictured as a yearling) was secured for 400,000 euros at the 2005 Goffs Million Yearling Sale, making her the most expensive filly by Rock of Gibraltar sold at that sale.
Offered for sale by Ballyhimikin Stud, Theann is from former brilliant sprinter Cassandra Go, winner of six races including the Group Two King’s Stand Stakes at Royal Ascot and second in the Group One Darley July Cup.
A half-sister to Group Three winner and proven sire Verglas, Cassandra Go is by outstanding sire Indian Ridge.
Theann is the 13th stakes winner worldwide for Rock of Gibraltar who will return to Australia this spring at a fee of $82,500 after spending his Northern Hemisphere season in Japan.
