South African Juvenile Winner for Rock
14th July 2007
Rock of Gibraltar featured at Greyville in South Africa on Friday when two year-old filly Rock’s Broad (2f Rock of Gibraltar - Prized Glory, by Prized) won the fillies and mares maiden over 1900 metres.Having her fourth race start after running three consecutive seconds, the Charles Laird trained Rock ‘s Broad cruised clear to score a deserved win by a length and a quarter.
Rock’s Broad was secured by Laird for $155,000 from the draft of Glastonbury Farm at the 2006 Magic Millions Yearling Sale and is the fourth living foal of superbly bred mare Prized Glory, an unraced half-sister by Prized to Caulfield Cup winner Diatribe.
The third dam of Prized Glory is none other than Spring Adieu, the dam of champion sire Danehill, so it’s an interesting pedigree on many levels.
Rock’s Broad is one of three South African juvenile winners this season for Rock of Gibraltar joining Group One winner Seventh Rock and stakes-placed Uber Rock.
In total he has produced 13 individual winners from his first Southern Hemisphere bred crop with nine in Australia, three in South Africa and one in New Zealand.
