Cecconi Poised for Big Spring

10th July 2007

Exciting Encosta de Lago colt Cecconi (2c Encosta de Lago - Tonicity, by Blazing Sword) has been named a likely spring star for Lindsay Park by stable foreman Tony McEvoy in an interview on 2SM’s Racing to the Max on Saturday.

Winner of the Listed MRC Blue Diamond Preview at his second race start, the David Hayes trained Cecconi went on to finish just behind the place-getters in a number of the better juvenile events and by all accounts has returned in super order.

“He’s put on 50kg and has furnished into a different horse,” enthused McEvoy.

“He’s always had the ability but just wasn’t quite there in the autumn, but he’s a horse we see as capable of making a big improvement and could be effective up to a mile and even a mile and a quarter.”

Cecconi (pictured as a yearling) was purchased for $460,000 by James Bester Bloodstock at the 2006 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale and is the fifth foal of the very good Listed winner Tonicity, a half-sister to Group Three winner Bodacious Babe by Blazing Sword.

He comes from the same family as Golden Slipper winner Stratum who is one of the hottest young sires in the country, so spring success could mean a great deal for Cecconi in terms of a future career at stud.
