First American Stakes-Winner for Rock

9th July 2007

Rock of Gibraltar was represented by his first American stakes-winner on Sunday when English Colony (3c Rock of Gibraltar - Jemima, by Owington) took out the Inside The Belt Way Stakes at Belmont over six furlongs on turf.

He stalked the leader in second place before kicking clear in the stretch to score by two lengths, making it two wins from three starts for trainer Angel J Penna.

Bred and retained by William Farish, English Colony is from the Group Two winning Owington mare Jemima and carries a double cross of Danzig 3 x 4 as Owington is by Green Desert.

English Colony becomes the 12th stakes-winner worldwide for Rock of Gibraltar who will return to Australian this spring at a fee of $82,500 after spending his Northern Hemisphere season in Japan.
