Encosta Juvenile Wins by Five

4th July 2007

Leading sire Encosta de Lago produced an impressive winner at the metropolitan meeting conducted at Ballarat on Wednesday, when the Peter Moody trained Tan Tat De Lago (2f Encosta de Lago - Tan Tat Star, by Umatilla) bolted in by five lengths.

Stepping up in class from a last start win at Wangaratta, Tan Tat De Lago cruised through the heavy conditions to win the 1400 metre event as she liked, taking her record to two wins from three starts.

Retained to race by her breeders, Tan Tat De Lago is the first foal of the Umatilla mare Tan Tat Star, a metropolitan winning full sister to Group One winner Umrum.

She is one of eight Australian juvenile winners this season for Encosta de Lago, whose two year-old stars include Group One winner Apercu, Group Two winner Press the Button and stakes-winner Cecconi.

Encosta de Lago is currently in third place on the Australian General Sires List for 2006/2007 with seasonal progeny earnings in excess of $8.5 million.

He will return to Coolmore Australia this spring after spending his first Northern Hemisphere season in Ireland, his fee set at $220,000.
