There have been some more impressive wins from Coolmore's first crop sires in recent days including the Hawk Wing colt Montaquila (2c Hawk Wing-Intellectuelle by Caerleon) who readily saw off a field of previous winners to land a Newcastle novices' event on Thursday for trainer Howard Johnson.
Bred by Ridgecourt Stud, the 75,000gns yearling scored by two and a half lengths under jockey Tom Eaves. "I knew he'd get further, which is why I kicked on quite early," said Eaves."He had the best form going into the race on his first run, so he was entitled to win as he did."
At Carlisle on Wednesday, Choisir had an impressive winning debutant in Choose Your Moment (2c Choisir-Time Will Show by Exit To Nowhere), trained by Patrick Haslam for Duncan Davidson. A £75,000 breeze-up purchase from the Goffs Kempton Sale, Choose Your Moment was bred by Alpha Bloodstock.
"We were very hopeful as he seemed a nice colt at home," admitted Haslam, who could aim the Choisir colt at a novices' event at Ascot.
Meanwhile at Newcastle on Saturday, the Statue Of Liberty colt Robscarvic (2c Statue Of Liberty-Calypso Run by Lycius), bred by Peter McCutcheon, scored on his debut for trainer Alan Swinbank and looked another destined to go on to bigger things.
