Railway Stakes 1-2 for Danehill Dancer

1st July 2007

The G2 Railway Stakes has a brilliant record at producing future stars and this year’s running at the Curragh on Sunday saw a 1-2 for Danehill Dancer when the Aidan O’Brien-trained Lizard King (2c Danehill Dancer-Add by Spectacular Bid) beat his stablemate South Dakota (2c Danehill Dancer - Moon Drop by Dominion).

Lizard King held off a late rally from South Dakota to score by three-quarters of a length.

"We thought he was a nice horse before he ran in Leopardstown, but he was green and raw there, and he came on for the run," said O’Brien of the winner. "He should get further and we will probably step him up now, and he will keep on improving."

O’Brien has a superb record in the Railway Stakes and his past winners include Holy Roman Emperor, George Washington, Rock Of Gibraltar, Antonius Pius and Hold That Tiger.

Danehill Dancer also had two Listed successes at the Curragh on Sunday when Lady Clague’s home-bred Snaefell (3g Danehill Dancer-Sovereign Grace by Standaan) won the Listed Bud Light Stakes for trainer Michael Halford and Danehill Music (4f Danehill Dancer-Tuesday Morning by Sadler's Wells), bred by Patrick Connolly, won the Listed Netjets Celebration Stakes.

The victories came 24 hours after Danehill Dancer’s much missed sire Danehill enjoyed another G1 success when Peeping Fawn (3f Danehill-Maryinsky by Sadler’s Wells) captured the G1 Pretty Polly Stakes.

For good measure the runner-up was Danehill Dancer’s Classic-winning daughter Speciosa (4f Danehill Dancer-Specifically by Sky Classic).
