Juvenile Stakes-Winner for Royal Academy
1st July 2007
Evergreen sire Royal Academy posted a new juvenile stakes-winner in England at the weekend when the Sangster family owned filly Polar Circle (2f Royal Academy - Polar Bird, by Thatching) took out the Listed Empress Stakes over six furlongs at Newmarket.Trained by Peter Chapple-Hyam, Polar Circle rebounded from an unplaced effort at Royal Ascot to notch her second win from just three starts and is likely to be aimed towards either the Group Two Cherry Hinton Stakes or Group Two Prix Robert Papin in France.
Bred by Swettenham Stud, Polar Circle is a full sister to stakes-winner Fokine and a half-sister to Group Two winner Ocean Ridge being from the Group Three winning Thatching mare Polar Bird.
It’s a family we see quite a bit of in Australia, most recently at the 2007 Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale, where Two Under Par, a half-sister to Polar Circle was sold by Paul Makin as part of the Starcraft Promotion Draft fetching $85,000.
The same extended family has also achieved success in Australia through Group One winners Curata Storm and Voile D’Or, plus Group Two winner Apple Danish.
Royal Academy is enjoying widespread success this year with stakes-winners all over the world and will return from a stint at Ashford Stud in Kentucky to take his place at Coolmore Australia this spring at a fee of $27,500.
