A Dozen NH Winners for Choisir
19th June 2007
It’s four years since the Paul Perry trained colt Choisir shot to international fame with a pulverizing win in the Group Two King’s Stand Stakes at Royal Ascot and then backed up to add insult to injury by winning the Group One Golden Jubilee Stakes. His performances drew superlatives from racing commentators all over the world and single handedly gained global respect for the Australian thoroughbred that had been sadly lacking to that point in time.
The Herculean feats achieved by Choisir in that glorious northern summer of 2003 secured him a dual hemisphere stud career with global breeding giant Coolmore and the powerhouse son of Danehill Dancer is showing every sign of making the grade.
Two year-old colt Guertino (2c Choisir - Isana, by Sunday Silence) brought up a dozen European winners for Choisir when he saluted at Carlisle in England on Monday for the Bryan Smart stable.
He scored by a length and a half after placing twice previously and is from the Sunday Silence mare Isana.
In Australia, Choisir continues to hold a narrow lead over Coolmore stablemate Rock of Gibraltar in the leading first season sires table by earnings, his six winners generating some $890,000 in prizemoney.
At the major Australian yearling sales this year Choisir had 53 youngsters average $90,292, his top seller a colt from Regal County that made $400,000 at Magic Millions for Robin Wise.
Choisir will return to Coolmore Australia this year at a fee of $33,000.
