Sudan is Peintre Celebre’s latest G1 star

There was more G1 glory for Peintre Celebre in Milan on Sunday when Sudan (4c Peintre Celebre-Sarabande by Woodman) was saddled by trainer Elie Lellouche to land the G1 Gran Premio di Milan at San Siro under Frankie Dettori.
The four-year-old, bred by the Wildenstein family’s Dayton Investments and now owned by Gary Tanaka, took the lead inside the two-furlong marker and held on gamely to take the 12-furlong prize.
“He won it well, but he got a little bit lost inside the final furlong and a half and started looking around,” said Dettori. Sudan is now set to join Michael Jarvis’s Newmarket stable and could eventually race in the US.
A big week for Peintre Celebre could continue at Royal Ascot when star Australian sprinter Bentley Biscuit (5g Peintre Celebre-Tycoon Joy by Last Tycoon) lines up in the G2 King’s Stand Stakes on Tuesday and - if all goes to plan - the G1 Golden Jubilee Stakes on Saturday.
Gai Waterhouse’s charge, who was bred by Davilora Lodge, is already a three-time G1 winner in Australia.
