TDN Rising Star for Fusaichi Pegasus

16th June 2007

Respected publication Thoroughbred Daily News has labeled Fusaichi Pegasus first starter The Roundhouse (2c Fusaichi Pegasus - Circle of Life, by Belong to Me) a ‘TDN Rising Star’ after his impressive debut win at Monmouth on Friday.

Trained by Todd Pletcher for Michael Tabor, The Roundhouse was well supported to show up on debut, but struggled to keep up in the early stages of the 1000 metre scamper before unleashing a powerful finishing burst down the middle of the track.

He won going away by a length and a half in an eye-catching debut performance and will be one to follow into the better juvenile events this year.

Bred by Chelston Ireland, The Roundhouse is by Fusaichi Pegasus from the Group One winning Belong to Me mare Circle of Life, making him a half-brother to last season’s Group One winning juvenile Circular Quay, a son of Thunder Gulch.

Circular Quay won his first three starts as a juvenile culminating with a win in the Group One Saratoga Hopeful Stakes, then finished second to Street Sense in the Group One Breeders Cup Juvenile, going on this season to add the Group Two Lousiana Derby to his record.

Fusaichi Pegasus is one of very few shuttle stallions to achieve success in both hemispheres and he is currently the leading third season sire in Australia by a large margin with seasonal progeny earnings in excess of $4.4 million.

His total of 28 stakes-winners worldwide are split evenly between both hemispheres with 13 in the south led by Group One winners Haradasun and Hong Kong based Floral Pegasus and 15 in the north highlighted by Group One winners Bandini and Roman Ruler both now at stud in Kentucky.
