Starry Light Breaks Maiden in Style

11th June 2007

Danehill Dancer posted his seventh individual Australian two year-old winner this season when Starry Light (2f Danehill Dancer – Starry Strike, by Straight Strike) romped home to win at Randwick on Monday in the 1200 metre juvenile maiden.

The Noel Mayfield-Smith trained filly proved adept in the heavy conditions, skipping clear to win by four and a half lengths to notch her first success in five starts.

Finishing just behind the place-getters in three runs before Christmas, Starry Night has obviously returned from a spell a more seasoned and mature filly.

Purchased for $105,000 by Mayfield-Smith from the draft of Windsor Park Stud at the 2006 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale, Starry Light was bred by Plowman Bloodstock and is now raced by well know Sydney owners Mr and Mrs Bill Fisher.

A flashy chestnut foaled in New Zealand, Starry Light is the first foal of Starry Strike, a winning half-sister to Group One winner Bawalaksana and Group Two winner Damaschino.

Sent back to New Zealand in January, Starry Strike was covered last spring by Rock of Gibraltar.

Danehill Dancer is having a great run with his Australian juveniles this season, which include Group Two winner Downhill Racer, Group Three winner Shrewd Rhythm and Listed winner Danehill Smile.
