Fusaichi Pegasus Double in Hong Kong

9th June 2007

Kentucky Derby winner Fusaichi Pegasus had a winning double at Sha Tin on Saturday with Mascot Fortune (2g Fusaichi Pegasus - Vegahoney, by Laranto) and Moshi Moshi (3g Fusaichi Pegasus – Visual Displays, by Scenic) both tasting success.

Making his debut, Mascot Fortune was a touch slow to jump and drifted back in the field before unleashing a sizzling burst close to home to reel in the leaders and win the 1200 metre griffin event by a length and a quarter over the favourite One World (2g Danehill Dancer – River Serenade, by Hurricane Sky).

Prepared by Manfred Man, Mascot Fortune (pictured as a yearling) was purchased from the Coolmore draft at the 2006 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale by Asian Bloodstock Services for $110,000.

From the grand producer Vegahoney, Mascot Fortune is a half-brother to Group One SAJC Australasian Oaks winner La Volta and Listed winner Terevega, along with six other winners.

He is the second last foal from Vegahoney who died in 2006, while her last foal, a yearling filly by Rock of Gibraltar, was sold at Magic Millions earlier this year for $155,000 and has been named Rock Honey.

The John Moore trained three year-old Moshi Moshi led for much of his 1400 metre assignment and kicked strongly in the straight to win by more than two lengths and has now won his last two starts in succession.

Pinhooked as a yearling from the 2005 Magic Millions Yearling Sale in Adelaide, he was successfully re-offered as a two year-old by Eliza Park as agent at the 2005 Inglis Horses in Training Sale in Victoria where he was purchased by Surefire Pty Ltd for $125,000.

Bred by Kanowna Stud in South Australia, Moshi Moshi is the second foal of the stakes-winning Scenic mare Visual Displays, whose first foal Kaleido is also a winner.

Last spring Visual Displays was sent back to Fusaichi Pegasus, who is now the leading third crop sire in Australia with seasonal progeny earnings in excess of $4.3million.
