Danehill Dancer Provides Starcraft Highlight
4th June 2007
Danehill Dancer featured during the first session of the 2007 Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale at the Gold Coast on Monday when his champion daughter Private Steer (7m Danehill Dancer - Lisheenowen, by Semipalatinsk) proved the highlight of the Starcraft Promotion Draft when knocked down to Coolmore Stud at $1.4 million.Offered by Paul Makin as part of the Starcraft Promotion Draft, Private Steer was offered in foal to Starcraft in her second season at stud having produced a cracking filly by US based sire Awesome Again last spring.
Private Steer (pictured) will make a valuable addition to the Coolmore broodmare band as an exceptional racemare who won 12 of 20 starts earning $3.4 million, her career highlights coming in the Group One AJC Doncaster Handicap, Group One AJC All Aged Stakes and Group One QTC Stradbroke Handicap.
The triple Group One winner will be sent to leading sire Encosta de Lago this spring.
Coolmore Stud also acquired star producer Gypsy Dancer for $1.5 million, the mare in foal to Redoute’s Choice, the sire of her current weanling colt that was also secured by Coolmore for $1.15 million during last week’s Magic Millions National Weanling Sale.
Already the dam of champion two year-old and four-time Group One winner Dance Hero, Gypsy Dancer is likely to visit Holy Roman Emperor in his first season at stud in Australia, a mating that will result in a three-quarter relation to both Dance Hero and the record priced weanling.
Encosta de Lago also featured as the covering sire of the third highest priced mare sold during the opening session in Melbourne Cup winner Jezabeel, who was knocked down to Belmont Bloodstock Agency for $725,000.
