Scorpion heads Coronation Cup 1-2-3

1st June 2007

Montjeu’s progeny know all about G1 glory at Epsom and - 24 hours before his son Authorized (3c Montjeu-Funsie by Saumarez) was set to be sent off favourite for the G1 Vodafone Derby - Scorpion (5h Montjeu-Ardmelody by Law Society) led home a 1-2-3 for Coolmore stallions in the G1 Coronation Cup.

Scorpion, bred by Grangemore Stud and already winner of the G1 St Leger, was powered home by Mick Kinane a length and a half clear of Septimus (4c Sadler’s Wells-Caladira by Darshaan) with Maraahel (6 h Alzao-Nasanice by Nashwan) in third.

"He blew up with me at Chester last time and we knew he had come on for his last run," said Kinane. "Aidan (O’Brien) said to me that the horse had made a lot of progress and wanted me to ride him again."
