New Stakes Horse for Choisir

26th May 2007

Choisir featured in New Zealand on Saturday when his two year-old son Yao (2g Choisir – Seattle Swing, by Seattle Dancer) was narrowly beaten in the Listed AuRC Great Northern Foal Stakes at Ellerslie over 1400 metres.

Having his second start after an impressive debut win at Woodville on May 10, the Murray Baker trained Yao went down by a head to Russian Conquest after racing very greenly over the concluding stages, so much so that it almost certainly cost him the win.

A $50,000 purchase from the 2005 Inglis Australian Select Weanling Sale, Yao was bred by David Bentata and is the seventh foal of stakes-placed Seattle Swing.

Yao is the seventh Australasian stakes horses for Choisir who is the leading Australian first season sire by earnings, his star Southern Hemisphere performers being Incumbent, Hurried Choice, Love’s Great, Simplest, Choisism and Maxisun.
