Tale of the Cat Juvenile Wins in South Africa

3rd May 2007

Australian bred two year-old colt Street Cat (2c Tale of the Cat – Yeah Baby, by Anabaa) bolted in to win a maiden juvenile event at Clairwood in South Africa on Wednesday.

The Dennis Drier trained son of Tale of the Cat improved off a debut third on April 18, running his rivals ragged in the 1200 metre event in scoring by eight lengths.

Street Cat was purchased by owner Ivan Van Shalkwyk for $70,000 from the draft of Glastonbury Farms at the 2006 Magic Millions Yearling Sale on the Gold Coast.

He is the second foal of Anabaa mare Yeah Baby, a half-sister to Group Three winner Left Bank.

The other division of the juvenile maiden was won by a South African youngster, with Australian bred filly Rock’s Broad (2f Rock of Gibraltar – Prized Glory, by Prized) finishing second on debut beaten two lengths.

Also sold by Glastonbury Farms at Magic Millions, this time with Charles Laird the buyer at $155,000, Rock’s Broad is the fourth foal of Prized Glory, a half-sister by Prized to Caulfield Cup winner Diatribe.

Tale of the Cat and Rock of Gibraltar will both return to Coolmore Australia this spring with the former at a fee of $33,000 and the latter at $82,500.
