Eye-catching filly Hollaback (3f Fusaichi Pegasus – Lady Mulan, by Bigstone) powered to the line with an impressive late surge to break her maiden in style at Canterbury on Wednesday in the 1250 metre restricted event for three year-olds.

The baldy-faced daughter of Fusaichi Pegasus settled back in the field before unwinding a big finish down the middle of the track, eventually going on to score by two lengths.

Prepared by John O’Shea, Hollaback was having her first run back from a long spell having not raced since a close second on debut at Wyong last September.

“We’ve been a long time waiting for her, but she’s a lovely filly,” said John O’Shea.

“Her owners have been very patient and every time I’ve needed to tip her out they’ve agreed and hopefully she has a good race in her.”

Jockey Glenn Boss was equally enthusiastic about the prospects of Hollaback, who is entered for the Group One QTC Queensland Oaks.

“She’s a filly with untapped ability, that last furlong today she almost wanted to pull up and wait for them!” declared Boss.

Racing in the lime green and navy stripes of the Perrin family, Hollaback (pictured as a yearling) was purchased for $350,000 from the draft of Willow Park Stud at the 2005 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale.

Bred by John Madgwick (Jynnbrook Pty Ltd) and foaled and raised at Willow Park, she is the first foal and first winner for Group Two winner Lady Mulan, a half-sister by Bigstone to Group Three winner Kinzaffra.

A grand style of a mare, her first three foals have sold tremendously well, with Hollaback followed by a Dehere colt (Absent Friends) that made $600,000 at Easter and then a Lonhro filly that made $350,000 at Easter this year.

“We’re so delighted to see this filly win as the mare has done everything you could ask in the sale ring, but you need them to throw a winner and now she’s done it,” said Glenn Burrows of Willow Park Stud.

Lady Mulan continued her good form by producing a terrific filly by Encosta de Lago last spring.

“The Encosta de Lago filly is absolutely outstanding, a great type of filly that will be heading to Easter next year,” added Burrows.

Fusaichi Pegasus will return to Australia this spring at a fee of $66,000 and is now a runaway leader on the third season sires table with a break of nearly $2million in prizemoney on his nearest pursuer.
