Refinement is another G1 winner for Oscar

Oscar, who sired Tuesday’s G1 Ellier Developments Hanover Quay Novice Chase winner Offshore Account (7g Oscar- Park Breeze by Strong Gale), enjoyed another G1 success at the Punchestown Festival when Refinement (8m Oscar-Maneree by Mandalus) won the G1 Dunboyne Castle Hotel & Spa Champion Stayers’ Hurdle on Thursday.

"She has always had ability and I gave her a couple of smacks after the bend and she did it nicely," said winning jockey Tony McCoy.

Plans are now on hold to retire the mare, who was home-bred by Michael Tabor and also won the G1 Champion INH Flat Race at Punchestown in 2005. She will be aimed at the Queen Alexandra Stakes at Royal Ascot.
