Coolmore Sires Feature at Happy Valley

25th April 2007

Encosta deLago and Fusaichi Pegasus both featured in the winners list at the Happy Valley meeting in Hong Kong on Wednesday.

Encosta de Lago got on the board with the David Ferraris trained Chater de Lago (4g Encosta de Lago - Cantinela, by Zoffany), which won in Australia under the name of Cadet when trained by Graeme Rogerson for Lloyd Williams.

A $105,000 purchase from the 2004 Inglis Premier Yearling Sale, Chater de Lago scored a narrow win in the 1650 metre event, his first success since arriving in Hong Kong.

Chater de Lago is a full brother to the stakes-winning sprinter Coccinero and his dam Cantinela was purchased by Yarraman Park for $250,000 at the Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale last year, subsequently producing an Encosta de Lago colt for them last spring.

Another result of interest was the win of lightly raced three year-old Kingsgate Glory (3g Fusaichi Pegasus – Tremone Bay, by Last Tycoon), a $250,000 Easter purchase (pictured as a yearling) for Ron McAnulty from the draft of Coolmore Stud.

Prepared by Tony Millard, the strikingly marked bay led throughout the 1800 metre contest and pulled clear for a length and a half win carrying top weight of 131 pounds, his second victory from seven starts with two minor placings.

He is one of four winners from good producing Last Tycoon mare Tremone Bay, a sister to stakes-winner Touch of Mahogany, half-sister to champion griffin Lifeline Express and closely related to eight-time Group One winner Mahogany.

Coolmore sold the current yearling colt by Encosta de Lago from Tremone Bay for $300,000 at Easter this year to Tony Bott and after producing a full sister to that colt last spring, she is back in foal to Encosta de Lago again.
