$100,000 for Bantry Bay

25th April 2007

Consistent filly Bantry Bay (2f Tale of the Cat – Eastern Awe, by Persian Heights) scored a tenacious win in the open juvenile event at Moonee Valley on Wednesday, taking her overall earnings to $103,000.

Prepared at Cranbourne by Barry Barnes, the under-rated daughter of Tale of the Cat was ridden forward to lead from an outside barrier and did a sterling job to win by a length after being headed at the top of the straight.

“She had to do a bit of work early to get to the lead, then mid-race I was able to ease her. After that horse passed her at the top of the straight, she fought back in style and did a great job to win,” said winning rider Darren Gauci.

Bred and retained to race by Fernhaven Lodge, Bantry Bay has two wins and a second from five starts to her credit.

She is the seventh foal of the Persian Heights mare Eastern Awe, a minor winner from the family of Group winners Embassadora, Western Chorus and Jeune King Prawn.

Bantry Bay is one of six individual Australian juvenile winners this season for Tale of the Cat, joining stakes-placed Tower Cat, and metropolitan winners Purrealist, De Jetcat, Puss ‘n’ Boots and Maltese.
