Night Shift filly heads to Guineas

19th April 2007

Scarlet Runner (3f Night Shift - Sweet Pea by Persian Bold), home bred by former National Stud chairman Nicholas Jones at his Coln Valley Stud in Gloucestershire, is set to line up in the G1 1000 Guineas after defeating odds-on favourite Sander Camillo in the G3 Nell Gwyn Stakes at Newmarket.

The Night Shift filly, winner of last season’s G3 Princess Margaret Stakes at Ascot, is as low as 8/1 for classic glory next month.

"She did a very nice piece of work over six furlongs at Goodwood on Saturday and she’s now a Group winner at two and three," said Scarlet Runner’s trainer John Dunlop. "She’s a very strong filly and I thought she was the pick of the field on physique. She’ll come on for this too."

Also bound for the G1 1000 Guineas is the Rock Of Gibraltar filly Blue Rocket (3f Rock Of Gibraltar - Champagne Girl by Robellino), who finished third in the G3 Nell Gwyn Stakes.

"There’s only one 1000 Guineas so we’ll have to have go," said her trainer Tim Pitt.
