Latest Choisir winner the omen tip of the day

14th April 2007

If ever there was an omen tip of the day it was Love’s Great (2f, Choisir-Explosive Love, by Rubiton), winner of the MVRC Asofia Handicap (1000m) staged as the opening event on the latest Saturday program conducted at Moonee Valley in Melbourne.

With trainer Tom Dabernig away from the track enjoying his honeymoon, the aptly-named Love’s Great recorded a well overdue success, posting her maiden victory and the very first Melbourne metropolitan win of the fledging Victorian mentor --- a grandson of the legendary horseman C.S. Hayes.

Boasting very solid form around the likes of leading 2-year-olds Press The Button (by Encosta de Lago), Gamble Me (by Rock of Gibraltar), Royal Asscher (by Stravinsky) and Beauty School (by Royal Academy), the first race success of Love’s Great hardly came as any surprise. A well backed second favourite of the contest, the daughter of Choisir came widest of all racing into the home straight yet was still to prove too strong for her opposition, winning by half a length.

A stakes placegetter earlier in the season, Love’s Great became the fifth individual 2-year-old winner for Choisir in season 2006/07. The international Group One winning son of Danehill Dancer leads the first season sires listing with progeny earnings now in excess of $850,000 with just under a third of the season still to go.
