Haradasun wins the Doncaster

9th April 2007

Australia’s No. 1 mile has been added to the burgeoning stud record of Fusaichi Pegasus thanks to a courageous victory by star 3-year-old colt Haradasun (3c, Fusaichi Pegasus-Circles of Gold, by Marscay) in the 2007 Group One AJC Doncaster Handicap (1600m).

A heavily backed favourite of the contest following his last start success in the time honoured George Ryder Stakes (G1), Haradasun made most of his inside barrier and was always travelling keenly just behind the leaders during the early stages of the feature. Come the home straight, the magnificent son of 'Fu-Peg' snuck up the inside and edged to the lead before holding off all challengers in a slogging finish over the final 200 metres.

Trainer Tony Vasil was full of praise for his outstanding charge when interviewed immediately after the feature win. “He is only going to get better with time,” claimed the master horseman. “They were coming from everywhere today and he showed a bit of heart. He’s a super horse this bloke.”

Jockey Glen Boss fully concurred: “This horse has so much raw talent“ the ace hoop declared. “He hasn’t realised anything near his full potential. It will be scary when he does. The owners are going to have a lot of fun with this horse. He is something special!”
