Fu-Peg colt joins the black-type club

7th April 2007

One week after playing a starring role on the 2007 Golden Slipper program, Fusaichi Pegasus has supplied another outstanding winner in a feature event on a super Saturday metropolitan card in Sydney . The Listed AJC Carbine Club Stakes (1600m) is invariably won by a horse going places in a hurry and few past winners have been as impressive as Yasumori (3c, Flying Pegasus-Danielle, by Storm Cat), a three and a half lengths winner of the 2007 renewal of the race.

Racing in the distinctive red and black colours of Gooree Pastoral, Yasumori took his place in the field fresh from a class record victory over 1400 metres at Warwick Farm first-up from a spell. Having only the seventh outing of his career in the Carbine Club, the handsome son of Fusaichi Pegasus quickened away from his opposition over the final 200 metres doing all of his best work over the closing stages.

Yasumori hails from the same 3-year-old crop as last weekend’s Group One winning 3-year-old colt Haradasun and is the latest member of the breed to signal his arrival in Australian stakes company. Jockey Darren Beadman has little doubt that the son of Fusaichi Pegasus has bigger and better things ahead of him, declaring: “He is a really nice horse going places. He’s got a touch of brilliance.”
