HOLY ROMAN EMPEROR NEW FOR 2007

14th March 2007

Dual Group 1-winning two-year-old Holy Roman Emperor (3c Danehill - L'On Vite by Secretariat) has been retired to join the Coolmore roster for 2007.

The ultra-consistent Danehill colt was second top-rated juvenile of 2006.
He was ranked 125, 1lb behind the Galileo colt Teofilo, by Timeform, who described him in the Racehorses Of 2006 annual as "a powerhouse on looks".
He was also second in the World Thoroughbred Rankings.

Turform's 2006 annual added: "Seven races in little over four months represents a pretty arduous campaign for the two-year-old, especially so when four of those races were in Group 1 company. It is a long time since a juvenile contested the Phoenix Stakes, National Stakes, Grand Criterium and Dewhurst Stakes and considering he produced an improved level of performance each time bears testimony to Holy Roman Emperor's constitution."

After winning a Leopardstown maiden impressively on his debut, Holy Roman Emperor went on to take the G1 Phoenix Stakes at the Curragh by a length and three-quarters and ran away with the G1 Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere at Longchamp by two lengths. He was also a close second to Teofilo in both the
G1 Dewhurst Stakes and G1 National Stakes as well as winning the G2 Railway Stakes over six furlongs at the Curragh.

Coolmore's Christy Grassick said: "We are fortunate to have a horse of Holy Roman Emperor's calibre to take over in order to facilitate our clients with mares booked to George Washington."

By the brilliant sire of sires Danehill, Holy Roman Emperor, is out of a Secretariat mare like the top sires Storm Cat, A P Indy, Gone West, Dehere and Chief's Crown. His dam, from the family of top Australian sire Encosta De Lago, has bred four stakes winners and is a full-sister to champion two-year-old Medaille D'Or.
