CLASSIC PROMISE FROM THE GALILEOS

13th March 2007

Banc de Fortune (3f, Galileo-Danendri, by Danehill) looked every bit an Oaks filly in the making when storming home down the outside of the Randwick straight to win the Listed AJC Aspirations Quality over 1600m to remain unbeaten in 2007.

Well supported at sizeable odds following a first-up win at Newcastle, Banc de Fortune raced well back in a healthy field of 14 runners for the majority of the trip and only saw daylight when produced for her final effort well in to the straight. However, the talented filly accelerated in impressive fashion to charge past the leaders close to home and post a narrow though highly promising victory.

A member of Galileo’s first 3-year-old crop to race in Australia, Banc de Fortune is the winner of three races from just five career starts and has the bloodlines to suggest that one of the remaining Classics still to be staged around the country could easily fall her way. Besides being a quality daughter of an exceptional Epsom Derby winner, her dam Danendri was the Champion 3YO Filly of 1996/97 and a winner of the Group One AJC Oaks.

Banc de Fortune is the fourth stakes winner sired by Galileo in following last season’s juvenile stakes winners Personify, Gallant Tess and Discorsi. Like Banc de Fortune, Discorsi also figured on the Randwick program with an eye-catching performance in the Group One AJC Randwick Guineas and is making pleasing progress towards a coveted Classic, in his case the AJC Australian Derby in mid-April.
