GROUP WIN FOR SON OF CHOISIR

10th March 2007

The first 2-year-old crop of Choisir now boasts a Group Two winner following the impressive success of Incumbent (2c, Choisir-Chalonne, by Rubiton) in the VRC Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m) --- the colt’s second feature race victory on the bounce.

Just seven days after winning the valuable Inglis Classic over 1200m, Incumbent added greatly to his worth as a future stallion prospect with a distinguished win in one of Victorian racing’s most celebrated juvenile events. Ridden well back in the field at his first attempt over the metric equivalent to seven furlongs, Incumbent put himself in to the race a furlong from home before posting an authoritative one and a quarter length success.

“He’s a class horse and has a bright future,” was the succinct way jockey Damien Oliver described Incumbent immediately after the colt’s initial Pattern Race success. The talented youngster has now won two from five and is yet to finish out of the placings for earnings of close on $500,000.

Nick Williams, the spokesman for Incumbent’s connections, indicated that the colt could next be seen in action interstate. “I think he’s a real chance of going to Sydney now,” he said in reference to the rich autumn carnival to take place at Rosehill Gardens and Royal Randwick racecourses over the next six weeks. “We’ll assess how he pulls up and go from there.”
