RICH WIN BY SON OF CHOISIR

3rd March 2007

The valuable 2007 Inglis Premier (1200m) was won by a member of Choisir’s first crop to race in when Incumbent (2c, Choisir-Chalonne, by Rubiton) swooped late in the straight to take the $265,000 winning purse.

Despite racing wide in the field in a hotly contested event, Incumbent found plenty over the concluding stages of the contest restricted to graduates sold at the 2006 Inglis Premier Yearling Sale. Significantly, the winning time of 1m10.16s proved to be more than a second faster than that recorded in the only other juvenile contest staged over the same course and distance on the card, as well as a 3-year-old 1200-metre event conducted as Race One of the same Caulfield program.

Raced in the prominent blue and white colours of the Williams family, Incumbent cost $255,000 as a yearling and will now attempt to qualify for a berth in this year’s prestigious Golden Slipper field. Family spokesman Nick Williams confirmed that the talented colt would head to Sydney following his valuable success which came fast on the heels of a meritorious second placing behind subsequent Group One MRC Blue Diamond Stakes winner Sleek Chassis.
