BIG RACE WINNER TO VISIT GALILEO
Gr.1 Preis der Diana winner Almerita (Medicean) has been retired and will visit Galileo in the spring. The Waldemar Hickst-trained filly raced nine times over two seasons winning three times, finishing placed on four occasions and earning €267,152 in prize money for her owner Dr Christoph Berglar.
Bred by Benedikt Fassbender, Almerita raced three times as juvenile, winning the big sales race at Düsseldorf before closing her first season with a second in the Gr.3 Preis der Winterkönigin at Baden - Baden behind Nordtänzerin (Danehill Dancer). She began her Classic season with a win in the Listed Preis des Union-Gestüts at Cologne, before finishing second in the Gr.2 German 1,000 Guineas at Düsseldorf behind Lolita. After her Oaks triumph, she faced colts and older horses for the first time in the Gr.1 Grosser Dallmayr-Preis in Munich, where she was a good third behind Lord Of England and subsequent Gr.1 winner Laverock. She was catalogued for Tattersalls December Mares Sale but was bought back by her owner.
