SOLID AS ROCKS
6th November 2006
Seven-year-old Better Talk Now- winner of 2004 Breeders’ Cup Turf came at the Red Rocks as they raced towards home, but the wire came in time. Three-year-old Gr.1 St Leger-third Red Rocks capped a fantastic year for his sire Galileo winning the Gr.1 Breeder’s Cup Turf. The Brian Meehan-trained colt ran on strongly in the straight to win by half a length.“I decided to let them fight it out and then come at them. I rode him stone dead out of the back. I knew they had to stop”, said Frainkie Dettori, picking up his second Breeder’s Cup score of the afternoon.
“It’s a marvellous feeling, and a marvellous achievement for our whole operation. Frainkie rode a wonderful race”, added trainer Brian Meehan.
Bred by Ballylinch Stud and owned by J. Paul Reddam, who was the joint owner of 2005 Breeder’s Cup Juvenile winner Wilko, he was bought by McKeever St Lawrence for €130,000 at the Goffs Orby Yearling Sale.
Red Rocks thus became the seventh Graded/Group winner from the 127 three-year-olds in the first crop of Coolmore’s European Horse Of The Year Galileo.
